Imperfection

Would you want to visit a world
where there is no death,
no suffering and despair?
Would you want to visit a world
where there is no time,
where life is eternity?

Would you like your universe small,
too little for hate
to fit in its perfect form?
Would you like your universe bright,
with virtuous flames
that cleanse you of sinful thoughts?

Then step on the path to our realm
where there is no death,
where Light is the only King.
The price that we pay isn’t much —
we cannot feel love…
In truth, we can’t feel a thing.

This was probably inspired by the dystopia We, which I’d finished reading not long ago. Trading emotion for eternal “happiness” seems… terrifying, really. I hope our world never becomes like that.

Thank you for reading and feel free to comment!

  1. I’ve always been intrigued by the human obsession of flames being the only way we can be cleansed. I think its that as humans we are taken in by the need to seek retribution and that pain is a necessary part of life in order to be absolved of sin. Interesting piece and basis for lots of discussion.
