Prisoner — #writephoto

Enchanted by the azure waves,
I roam the gloomy mountain caves
In hopes that light will rescue me.
I wonder when I will be free.

There is no solace in the dark–
No sunny ray, no moonlit spark…
A wretched spirit follows me.
I wonder when I will be free.

The troubled ghost can read my mind;
He tells me I shall never find
The key to immortality…
I wonder when I will be free.

Enchanted by the azure waves,
I wonder when I will be free.

Written for Sue Vincent’s Thursday Photo prompt.

I decided to write a kyrielle sonnet. It was easier to write than a kyrielle for some reason, maybe because a dark theme crept into my head yet again. I love dark themes.

  1. That desire for freedom is always with us I think Louise. Its like the life long search for happiness, you know its there but you can never quite put your finger on it….lovely piece of writing….

    1. The desire for freedom is always present, although such a darkness may hinder it. And it’s hard to pinpoint it, I agree. I tried to express this uncertainty in the poem; I’m glad you enjoyed it, Michael and thank you for your feedback!
